1. Mission Statement

Biotechnology Club is an opportunity for students to pursue their interest in biotechnology. Students of all grades are invited to participate, regardless of prior knowledge or experience, as the goal of the club is to supplement the knowledge that the student already has. While educating members through article discussion, activities, and experiments, the club also strives to make biotechnology as fun and interesting as possible.

Biotechnology Club is not meant to be a replacement for DNA science courses that are recommended for students going into the biotechnology laboratory. Biotechnology Club members are not guaranteed acceptance into the biotech senior techlab.

2. Member Conduct

Club members should be respectful of club officers and guest speakers. Equipment in the lab should be handled appropriately and as directed. It is the responsibility of the student to clean up food, messes, and other trash.

3. Finances

I. Source of funds
Club funds will come from a $5 membership fee and fundraising through bake sales. Members who pay the membership fee will be able to come to all meetings and activities and will have priority to non-paying members. Non-paying members may not be able to participate in certain experiments and activities.

II. Use of funds
Funds raised throughout the school year will be used to purchase equipment for experiments, materials and food for meetings, and gifts for guest speakers.

4. Definition of Offices

I. President
The president is the visible face of the club, responsible for overseeing all club meetings and activities, organizing leadership meetings, and working with the club sponsor, Mr. Lampazzi. In addition, the president should constantly be striving to improve the club by coming up with new ideas and listening to the concerns of members.

II. Vice President
The VP will work in conjunction with the president to plan meetings and activities. When the president is unable to attend, the VP will run meetings.

III. Other Offices
Other offices include secretary, treasurer, webmaster, and publicist. The secretary is responsible for taking minutes and informing members of upcoming events. The treasurer keeps track of club funds and is the liaison between the club and the finance office. Publicists make signs and recruit members. Other offices may be assigned by the president.

5. Ratification and Amendments

The constitution can be ratified by a 3/4 vote. Amendments may be proposed by any club member to the president. The president will then read the amendment to the club and a vote will be taken. If ratified by a 3/4 vote, the new amendment will be added to the constitution.
