Congratulations to our magnificent Chess Team, which won, for nothing less than the twelfth consecutive time, the VA Scholastic Chess Championship, in the process taking home ten of the top eleven prizes, the Top U1000 prize (congratulations, Bharat), the Top U1200 prize (congratulations, Jeremy), and many more, all despite missing some of our players because of the SATs administered that weekend!

The Chess Team won 2nd for the second year at the Supernational IV. Congratulations to Eddie Lu (6/7), Yang Dai (5/7), Quentin Moore (5/7), Craig Saperstein (4.5/7), Darwin Li (4.5/7). Also placed well are Aryan Khojandi (4/7), and Aravind Ponukumati (4/7).

The Chess Team has now won its eleventh straight VA State Championship with a total of 20 points (Aryan Khojandi, Eddie Lu, Craig Saperstein, Quentin Moore, and Yang Dai all won 5/6 games).

The Chess Team has now won its tenth straight VA State Championship! This dynasty is a landmark in scholastic chess history. In addition to bringing in the top team award by 4.5 points, TJ players Joey Regalbuto, Eddie Lu, and Aryan Khojandi took the top three places in a five-way tie for first place. Also placing well was captain Byron Hood, who took 8th, Tim Chen at 10th, and Craig Saperstein with 12th place. Freshman Madhu Karamsetty missed nomination to represent Virginia at the Susan Polgar tournament in August by only half a point.

The Chess Team (unofficially) sent two teams to the World Amateur Team East, where the “King Krunchers” with Aryan Khojandi, Byron Hood, Craig Saperstein, and Emma Pierson won 4 out of 6 matches, and eventually took the best high school team prize. The other team, composed of Jacob Steinhardt, Andrew Rodriguez, Jacob Daniels, and Stephen Drodge, scored 2 points out of 6.

Congratulations to the players who played in MACL matches for the Chess Team! TJ swept the Southern Division with 4 wins and no losses, and thereby qualified for the playoffs to be held March 1.

We won the MACL Registration Tournament! Congratulations to co-champions Eddie Lu and Byron Hood. Eddie edged out Byron in the tiebreak match but both took home impressive trophies.

Welcome to the TJ Chess Team website! In case the rest of the site doesn't already indicate this, the TJ Chess Team is the best team in Virginia and among the top in the nation. We are planning to improve those numbers this year at both States and Nationals. Keep tuned for further anmnouncements throughout the year about tournaments.
