Q: What is ECHO?
A: ECHO is a service club at Thomas Jefferson High School that uses music in any way, shape, or form to give back to the community. We perform for nursing homes, elementary schools, and hospitals and also perform for a general audience to raise money for charity. We also entertain and teach children the value of music by participating in interactive activities such as sing-along songs or music-related crafts.
Q: Who can join ECHO?
A: Any student interested in helping the community may join. People who are especially needed include those who are willing to work with elderly, young children, and mentally retarded.
Q: I don't play an instrument. Can I join?
A: Yes! We need as many volunteers as we can get! People who don't have musical talent can participate in simple children's activities or assist in planning upcoming events.
Q: When does ECHO meet?
A: ECHO will be open Wednesday B Block every week. Planning sessions (for officers and committees) and practice blocks (for performers) will alternate every other week. Check the eighth period schedule for when you should come.
Q: Are there any times outside of school we might meet?
A: Due to the time constraints during school hours, we will most likely perform concerts on weekends.
Q: Where will we perform?
A: Possible off campus sites include Weyanoke Elementary School, Leewood Nursing Home, Northern Virginia Training Center, INOVA Fairfax Children's Hospital, James Lee Community Center, Fairfax Corner, INOVA Fairfax Nursing Home. Check the links page for more information.
