Officer Positions
It's that time of year again where we need to determine the direction of the club for the future. In doing so, we are going to need a new set of officers for the upcoming school year to fill the positions of the outgoing seniors. The officer applications are now available via tjmedicalsociety@gmail.com and will be posted shortly. As with this year, the positions are two co-presidents, secretary, treasurer, senator, and public relations. If you are not on the mailing list or have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us.

Officer Application 2008

Last Meeting
March 5th, we had our second PBL of the year regarding a middle-aged vegan woman who went off of her vitamin supplements about five years ago. We are quite impressed with the conclusions reached by all of you in suggesting delusional parasitosis, the correct diagnosis, and Morgellon's, a new disease presenting with psychological itching under the skin. Stay current with any developments regarding this emerging disease!

February 20th, 2008
As a result of a most unfortunate sickness passing around the school, we were unable to have our planned PBL. As a result of this last-minute change, food previously designated for the PBL was available, which allowed for a heated and very exciting round of pictionary/charades. We hope to have more interactive activities like this in the future, so if you guys have ideas, let us know! Our PBL will be rescheduled for the next meeting.

February 6th, 2008
As an organization dedicated to the clinical sciences and the health of mankind in general, we took the opportunity to present on several service organizations including Spastics Society, Udayer Pathey, Cross Links, Operation Smile, Doctors Without Borders, and St. Jude, amongst others. It is our hope that sometime in the future, we will be able to collaborate with these organizations and learn about medicine in the process. We have decided to organize this with Cross Links, and to invite a guess speaker in to talk about Doctors Without Borders sometime in the near future. Stay posted!

January 23rd, 2008
We thought that an article discussion might be interesting, so we tried something we had not previously done: a socratic-type seminar conducted mainly by the members of Medical Society which branched into a discussion on ethics. We hope you enjoyed it!

December 12th, 2007
For the last meeting of 2007 on December 12th, we had a guest speaker, Dr. Joseph Watson, of INOVA Fairfax Hospital, enlighten us about his exciting professional career as a pituitary neurosurgeon. He has had 20 years of experience with NIH, in addition to a few years at Stanford University. We strongly appreciated the unique insight he provided us regarding his work. Thanks Dr. Watson!

November 21st, 2007
Our first PBL of the year was presented regarding a 31-year old female who presented with symptoms which were indicative of Hepatitis C and cirrhosis of the liver. We hope you had fun, and look forward to the next PBL.

November 7th, 2007
A presentation was given on the background of a supposed murder victim, "Brandon Stone," where evidence was presented and informationw as provided. The club then engaged in a competitive crime scene investigation and diagnosis of the cause of the victim's death. The data used will be available under the 'archives' section shortly.

Officer Positions Next Year
The officer positions that the club has are 2 co-presidents, a secretary, a treasurer, a senator, and a public relations officer. The senator will be charged with establishing lines of communication between the club and the officers, while the public relations officer will interact with figures outside of the club. One president, the treasurer, and the public relations officer are appointed, while the other president, the secretary, and the senator are elected by members of the club. Regardless, ALL APPLICANTS MUST (1) send an email to tjmedicalsociety@gmail.com, stating your intention of running for officership next year, (2) complete an application (click here to download) and submit it to an officer, and (3) come to a Monday lunch officer meeting and help organize/run a general meeting on a date announced later and near the end of the year. Any questions can be directed to an officer, and information can be expected around the 4th quarter.
