Welcome To Namaste!

A quick note that the first guys dance tutorial for the first song is posted here . The Namaste Club would like to congratulate all freshmen on their admission to TJHSST and welcome them to Namaste, the Indian cultural club. Namaste's purpose is to increase awareness, education, and acceptance of Indian cultures and traditions, and therefore invites participation of members of all ethnic backgrounds. The club sponsors a number of school-wide events, including International Night, Dhamaka (a Namaste-coordinated soc hop), and Holi, and is actively involved in volunteering in the community. Due to certain weather conditions, Dhamaka, originally scheduled for Friday, February 22nd, is now being moved to another date pending approval.

Congratulations to all those participated in this year's NCSSSMST conference! The dances went off without a hitch and everyone looked amazing.

TJ Namaste Guys and Girls' Dance will be participating at the conference this year! The girls will go first followed by a 3 minute guys dance and ending with the second half of the girls dance. The date for the conference is October 18th.

Heym yes we do send e-mail during the summer, Namaste never stops! But we have some exciting news for everyone TJ, along with George Mason University, will be hosting NCSSSMST (it stands for the National Consortium of Specialized Secondary Schools of Math, Science, and Technology!) Student Conference in October 2007. Most of the conference planners attended I-night, and they thought that it would be a great idea to include some of the acts from this year's program at the conference. So if any of you are interested in repeating the dances from this years I-Nite, please let us know, so we can let the planners know and also so we can schedule practices and such. If you are planning to do it, please try and refresh the dances over this summer, it will be hard to reteach the entire thing from scratch. k that's all, go back to enjoying summer! ~Apurva and Nihaar

The quotes page is getting updated pretty regularly these days. I credit that to the enormous number of kids in the freshman class, many of which would make great comedians (although for most people, it's unintentional). This has been an extremely popular page since its initiation. Check it out when you get the chance. All contributions are greatly appreciated, and if you wish to send in a quote, please email me.

.:International Night

Each year, the Namaste club sponsors International Night, an extremely prominent after-school event at Jefferson. Namaste along with other clubs including Asian Awareness, Black Student Union, Chinese Connection, Hispanic Alliance, and Scottish-Irish Cultural Club put on acts for an audience of 400 or more, drawing from students and parents at TJHSST along with other schools in the area. In addition to the performances, refreshments originating from countries across the globe are sold. International Night is Namaste's biggest event each year, with planning starting almost a full year in advance. It is also the club's largest fundraiser. Namaste has put on a variety of acts in the past few years. Each year there is a Guys Dance pyramid pyramidand a Girls Dance, which are open to anyone who wishes to participate. These dances are also quite popular among students of backgrounds other than Indian that wish to learn about other cultures. The Couples' dance was established a few years ago and has been a favorite among students within the club. However, due to the popularity of the act and the limited stage space, tryouts were initiated to select the participants. Other Namaste acts have included a Seniors Dance, singing, and tabla tablaperformances. International Night 2006, which was held on March 17, was a huge success, and we hope that incoming freshmen will share this experience with us during the coming year. International Night 2007 will be held on February 16, 2007. See the video below to check out the 2006 all girl's dance:
