About Namaste

The Club

Namaste is a cultural community at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology that is devoted to informing its student body about the richness and culture of Southern Asia. We aim to enhance knowledge, tear down common misconceptions, and further understanding in the religion, culture, and ideas behind the philosophies of this area. All students are invited to attend the meetings, and we invite everyone to sign in for Friday B blocks.

The goals of our club are vast, and we try not only to show our members a good time, often providing food and entertainment, but also to help out in the community. We contribute to different local charities, we participate in many cultural events at Jefferson (especially International Night), and we occasionally arrange special events and outings for our members.

Namaste has been one of the most popular cultural clubs since TJHSST's history, with devoted officers and loyal members. Everyone is welcome, so stop by sometime. Sit back, relax, have some curry, and maybe try out for the amazing new movie that some of our most enthusiastic members are creating. This club has "fun" written all over it.

The Word

"What's 'namaste' mean?"  The answer to your question is "hello."  Namaste (pronounced "nuh-MUH-stay") is the most common of greetings in India next to "Wassssssssuuuup."  In Sanskrit, it literally means "I bow to the divine spirit in you."  A symbol for peace, happiness, and acceptance of all cultures and origins, our club chose it's name as sign of amiability.

The Constitution

In the formation of the Indian Students Association of the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, we find it essential and imperative that the objectives, procedures, and regulations of this Organization be set forth in a written document, that shall govern this Organization and its Membership for the duration of its existence as an extracurricular entity within this school. With these goals and objectives in mind, we do hereby ordain and establish this Constitution of the Indian Students Association.
