Purpose
Education
TWIST encourages the spread of information about STEM careers for women. Our monthly speaker program allows students to learn about science career opportunities as well as here experiences from women in these fields of research.
Involvement
Girls are encouraged to participate in STEM activities and discussions through TWIST. TWIST sponsers interactive labs, such as creating gummy bear DNA models, and also hosts mentorship and networking days. Mentorship pairs younger girls with upperclass students, who can offer advice and help in STEM subjects. On networking days, several professional women come and have a discussion session with students.
Outreach
Techstravaganza is TWIST's largest outreach program. It is an event held in Spring where middle and elementary school students come to Thomas Jefferson and participate in STEM labs and activities. For more information on Techstravaganza, visit our Techstravaganza page.
