Comments:
-I was very pleased with the results of this contest. Usually, the first contest has scores of one or two 7's followed by many zeroes. Here many people had positive scores, and many of those with no points made good progress on problem 1.
-#1: Many people, upon trying mod 4, had a general idea of the solution, but were unable to prove it rigorously.
-#2: Apparently, #2 was the hardest. However, we thought #2 would be the easiest. Make sure you understand the solution to this problem provided in the solutions packet.
-#3: All three people who solved this problem used trig. Note although trig is straightforward, there are more elegant solutions that do not use it. The solutions packet provides two such solutions.
-Note that this contest was mainly testing your proof-writing skills in different ways.
