Hi! I'm Deven (he/him) and this is my sixth year of playing Quizbowl. I am interested in many categories, but my favorite and best category is history. I love Quizbowl because it has inspired me to learn about cool topics that I never would have heard of otherwise. It has also been a great way to build new friendships with other like-minded students. I'm so excited to be your Captain for the 2023-24 school year!

Hi! I'm Brian (he/him) and this is my fourth year doing Quizbowl. Quizbowl allows me to pursue my interests in history, econ and current events. I love Quizbowl for the community of people and friends that I've made, as well as it being a place for me to learn more about our world. Hi, I'm Ryan (he/him) and I'm a senior. I've been into quite a few categories such as history, classical music, religion, and geology. Quiz Bowl allows me to explore my various interests outside of my main interest in music. In the realm of music, Quiz Bowl further cultivated my appreciation for classical music, and studying the composers of the past inspired me to expand my music making from just producing(digital) to also composing(sheet music). The Quiz Bowl club has always been welcoming, and we have many unique members with diverse interests. Throughout my years with the club, I have had fun experiences at nationals, formed close bonds, and learned valuable lessons. Hi, I’m Alec (he/him) and this is my third year doing Quizbowl. I mainly do science, but I also like learning about the religions and mythologies of different cultures around the world. I’ve been doing academic competitions for a while, but I especially like Quizbowl because of the freedom I have to study whatever I want on my own time, as well as the experience of being part of a team that needs the specialized skills of each member.

Turns out getting cut from SciOly was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. Because of it, I got to join Quizbowl, where I would meet new friends who were here because they shared a passion for learning random trivia just like me. Perhaps the greatest memories I have come from the team and game, but even afterwards the greatest legacy is the friends I still keep in touch with and the knowledge I learned. Go TJ Quizbowl!

TJ Quizbowl gave me the chance to pursue the side of me who was a fan of absorbing interesting but archaic facts about the world. While being part of QB, I gradually regained a strong interest in reading and writing philosophy and found a community where I can just relax, even after I bombed my physics tests. What I loved the most about the club was the people. Sometimes in the grind of TJ, it can be hard to find people who are just learning for the sake of learning, but at Quizbowl, I found some of the most intellectually and socially engaging characters I’ve ever come across.

TJ Quizbowl is an experience that all students should have. There are not many other clubs at TJ where motivation comes so purely from the love of learning. The community built by Quizbowl for others to learn, the initiative of the members for mentorship and friendly competition, and the respect the students gain for each other are all the best parts of the club, and of course, the academic excellence and absolute genius of the members is a very nice bonus.
